My political pals have all been whispering to me about how insulting it is that Bill is just now stepping in at the last dirty second, and I don’t doubt their observations. Still, whenever I watch the former Prez at game time I can’t help but salute the master. Barackstar has studied his predecessors well, blending his inspirational oratory skills with Reagan and Bill’s moderate language and (subtle) Joe Six Pack delivery, plus a healthy dose of Howard Dean’s internet savvy. I’ll be flabbergasted if this doesn’t equal a win next Tuesday.

The Washington Post interviewed Bill Clinton in Africa, and I’m glad to see him back on the job. I respect the former president’s aid work abroad and I’d like to start forgetting about his nasty campaign blunders. (The whole comparing BO to Jesse Jackson in the 80s will be a tough one, though; it will have to get filed away with Monica in the part of my brain where I put my ex-boyfriends and other things I’d like to pretend never happened. Hell, his whole trip through South Carolina belongs there.)

He makes a solid point about Obama’s foreign tour as well, although the report says he didn’t talk about the future president in great detail. Despite the criticism it received, come debate time when the attacks about lack of experience and international standing surface Obama will be able to point to his reception and first-hand lessons about Iraq.

I’m glad that Bill doesn’t come off as a sore loser. Failure doesn’t suit him.
