After locking myself out of my friend Katie’s apartment in my pajamas for the better part of yesterday afternoon, the day really bounced back and wound up being quite a fantastic one. Not only did I have ample time to sunless tan in anticipation of Arianna’s big party tonight, I made it to Georgetown to see the Manifest Hope gallery (new pics in my Flickr stream over there >>) and do some quality celebratory bonding with my favorite people from the campaign trail. Special thanks to the upstairs neighbors who provided me with good company and a bloody mary while I waited to get back inside!
It’s exciting to be around so many people walking the streets, although a bit weird to see the soldiers everywhere directing traffic. Obama Jim and I wound up ditching the cab we were literally parked in en route to the Declare Yourself party and walked the last 20 blocks. It wasn’t too uncomfortably cold, but the metro stations were like mini mobs. I’ve been following @drgridlock on Twitter (recommended by @baratunde), and it’s a helpful tool for managing your way around town.
There wasn’t enough time to go home and change between activities so I rocked my yellow turtleneck and black leggings at the DY’s star-studded event, which was a bit unfortunate when a pal tapped my shoulder and said, “Oh, I want you to meet my friend Lindsey” (Lohan). Talk about Instant Frump Factor. It also hindered my ability to make Adam Levine of Maroon 5 fall in love with me, but perhaps there will be additional opportunities at other shindigs. I also posted some grainy pictures from that event in Flickr >>.
I’m trying to rush off to my Day of Service activity at noon, but FedEx still hasn’t delivered my forgotten tickets to swearing in so I’m stalking their package tracking department and waiting patiently. Well, sort of patiently. I’ll be pissed if I can’t do the one substantive thing I planned in this circus of events as a result of my flighty mistake, but I’ll have to go on a wild goose chase for it if they don’t show up soon.
Check back later for pictures from the HuffPost ball and today’s activities. I’m very excited to be here!
