Mom and I saw "Wall-E" last night and now I’m smitten with the little guy. Some friends had told me beforehand that there were a lot of adult themes in the movie and I wondered while watching how a child would process them. I’d like to see it again and think about it some more.
I can’t imagine what it would be like to grow up the way kids do now, in a world of screens, iPods, emails and constant text messaging. (Even Kung Fu Panda threatened to kick our butts if we engaged in the practice in the pre-show entertainment!) This movie represents a lot of the issues they’ll deal with, but it was particularly interesting in terms of how we’ll preserve our humanity as we become more invested in our technologies. I like that technology was represented here as a positive, even though there were obvious perils when people became too dependent.
Oh, and cheers for the "Rogue Robots." Love those guys!
Did the rave reviews about Wall-E not bug anyone else? It was a decent movie, but not groundbreaking… Also, nothing makes me hate a movie more than when it smacks me across the face with the “moral.” Did it not occur to Pixar to try something at least a a little bit subtle?
A robot left behind by humans that were forced to evacuate Earth because they accumulated too much trash and then went into space and got fat and machines took control of their lives? Really?
